01What this is
Invoice processing automation moves a payable from arrival to posting. After extraction, the system matches the supplier to master data, matches lines to a purchase order and receipt where they exist, applies tolerance rules, routes approvals, and posts to the ERP — with an exception queue for everything that fails a rule.
A good deployment measures straight-through processing rate and exception reasons, applies duplicate detection before posting, keeps segregation of duties intact so no automation approves its own payable, and writes an immutable log linking the posted entry to the source document.
Pitfalls: automating a broken process; tolerance rules loose enough to pay a duplicate; and e-invoicing mandates in several jurisdictions that change the format and the archive obligation. Payment fraud attacks target exactly this pipeline, so bank-detail changes must never be automated.

Two patterns fit inside one account in a region you name: call a managed foundation-model API such as Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry / Azure OpenAI, or Vertex AI; or deploy an open-weight model on GPU compute you control. Your application, retrieval layer, storage, identity and logs remain in your cloud boundary in both patterns.
